Welcome to Budondo Women Development Association website

 

Who we are:

Budondo Women Development Association (BUWODA) is a registered community-based, non-profit women’s organization located in Namizi West Village, Budondo, Jinja, Uganda. BUWODA addresses issues tailored to services and advocacy for underserved and marginalized communities. We focus on poor and vulnerable women, as well as orphans and vulnerable children (OVCs) in rural Jinja communities.

Issues being addressed:

1. Economic Empowerment & Poverty Reduction

  • Lack of access to start-up capital for small businesses

  • ‎Limited skills in entrepreneurship and income-generating activities

  • ‎Dependence on subsistence farming without modern methods

  • ‎Lack of market access for women’s products.

2. Education Barriers

  • School dropout of OVCs due to inability to pay school fees and buy scholastic materials.

  • ‎High rates of school dropout among girls due to poverty or early marriage

  • ‎Limited access to vocational training for school dropouts and young mothers

  • ‎Low literacy rates among adult women

3. Health & Nutrition Challenges

  • Poor access to healthcare for OVCs and vulnerable women

  • ‎Malnutrition and stunted growth among children

  • ‎Limited knowledge on nutrition, hygiene, and disease prevention

  • ‎Poor maternal health services, especially for rural mothers

 

4. Protection & Child Rights

  • Exposure of OVCs to abuse, neglect, and child labor

  • ‎Early and forced marriages of young girls

  • ‎Lack of child protection systems in rural communities.

 

‎5. Gender-Based Violence & Women’s Rights

  • Domestic violence and abuse without proper legal support

  • ‎Cultural practices that limit women’s decision-making power

  • ‎Early and forced marriages.

 

6. Water, Sanitation & Hygiene (WASH)

  • ‎Scarcity of safe and clean water sources

  • ‎Poor sanitation facilities in homes and schools

  • ‎Lack of menstrual hygiene management resources.

 

7. Climate Change & Environmental Sustainability

  • Deforestation and soil degradation affecting farming livelihoods

  • ‎Lack of knowledge on climate-smart agriculture

  • ‎Floods and droughts affecting food security

 

8. Social Inclusion & Community Leadership

  • Limited participation of women in local governance and decision-making

  • ‎Exclusion of women with disabilities from development programs

  • ‎Weak community networks for women’s support.
